So you have decided to install Exterior Shutters to your home. There is an extensive variety available ranging from wood, vinyl, PVC and composite shutters. Exterior Shutters have often been used as window coverings throughout the history of contempory architecture.

Exterior Shutters can give your home a new stylish look. There are many styles and types to choose from, you can be assured to find one to suit your taste, whether it be a modern or classic look.

Shutters can be hinged to either side of the window and swing closed or either mounted on tracks fitted to the face of the building. Fixed and track shutters allow air flow, filter sunlight and also provide privacy. Board-and-batten or solid panel shutters are usually used for protection during severe weather. Non-functional shutters are only used as a cosmetic enhancement to the exterior of a home or building.

Composite shutters offer some advantages over wood as they are resistant to splitting, twisting and rotting. However, some wood shutters such as Honduran Mahogany, Teak and Spanish Cedar have grain that breathes out moisture making these shutters resistant to decay and rot, therefore far more durable than softer woods like pine.
